I have been participating in a forum with many former and current followers of Yogi Bhajan. A lady by the name of Milenka posted there and says she is participating in the Yogi Bhajan Kundalini Yoga teacher training and wants her money back. Milenka says among other things,

"Yes, they (the Kundalini yoga teacher trainers) recorded our birth dates and gave us astrological charts and the copies were kept. We had to share the info to other students during class and were given feedback. I don't quite get why...The moment was really uncomfortable."

Gursant Singh says:
"Thank you for responding to my question. The reason I asked was because I have a suspicion that 3HO may be secretly developing an extensive data base on all its students which would include this astrological information they collected from you. We know that 3HO asks for your birth information, ie date, time, and place when they "grant" requests for a spiritual name.What we don't know is how they may use this information later.

During my 30 years in 3HO, I was quite involved in the practice of Vedic or Hindu astrology. This practice of occult astrology by Yogi Bhajan and now his followers is strictly against the Sikh code of conduct and was one of the biggest reasons I left 3HO. There is a legitimate reason these occult predictive practices are against the Sikh Reht, the Sikh Gurus did not want Sikhs or anyone else for that matter, to use this power to control people or cast "magic spells" on unsuspecting and naive students. I am not saying that 3HO is doing this now, I don't know, but what about if people like Harijiwan, who I know practices secret forms of manipulation, get into positions of power in 3HO? Who knows what Harijiwan or others like him may do with this personal information?"

Has Kundalini Yoga "Gong" teacher, Harijiwan Singh Khalsa become a “Black Tantric Yogi“?

I worked with Harijiwan for 25 years and considered him a fellow 3HO comrade during that time. Harijiwan and I had a falling out sometime around the beginning of 2009. HJ went the way of man-made yoga and I chose to embrace mainstream Sikhism which disavows tantric yoga asanas and relies instead on chanting God’s name with selfless devotion to God which Sikhs refer to as Namsimran. Since 2009 I have been observing Harijiwan’s meteoric rise in the yoga community with great concern. I can tell you from my personal experience with Harijiwan that he has embraced the use of both psychological and spiritually manipulative techniques only to gain power & control over his students. Consider these points:

(1)Until 2005 Harijiwan never taught a kundalini yoga class to my knowledge in spite of proclaiming he has been doing so since 1975. Instead of teaching yoga, Harijiwan was only involved with myself and others in criminally fraudulent telemarketing schemes.

(2)Harijiwan studied NLP(Neuro Linguistic Programming) extensively with Richard Bandler, one of the founders of NLP, who along with his NLP, are known for highly manipulative psychological techniques to control and or hypnotize people into performing activities they would normally not do. I have in-depth knowledge of Bandler and NLP because I was certified in NLP in 1980 and witnessed unbelievable mind control demonstrations at the course I attended which was located on The University of Santa Cruz campus in California.

(3)Another psychological manipulative technique Harijiwan uses and which I am very familiar with is “Face Reading”. I studied “Face Reading” extensively with the inventor of the technique, Dr. Narayan in Oregon in the late 70's before Harijiwan had ever heard of it. After years of using “Face Reading”, to manipulate people, I realized it was just another way that tantric yogis control and manipulate the actions of others.

(4)Harijiwan now uses “NLP” and “Face Reading” techniques in teaching yoga and personal counseling.

(5)When Harijiwan and I were in business we would use these NLP mind control techniques to fraudulently separate people from their hard earned cash.

(6)Harijiwan and I parted ways in 2009 and in our last meeting he tried to put me in a hypnotic trance in order to prevent me from exposing his fraudulent activities. Harijiwan said to me, in a deep almost demonic voice, something to the effect of:"I don't want anybody to know my criminal past, I want to bury it, I am in the "Kundalini Yoga Business" now! Do NOT tell people about my past". Harijiwan's attempt to spellbind me, is a typical NLP technique of using commands to manipulate people. Harijiwan combined this with Yogi Bhajan’s black magic tantric techniques to try and stop me from exposing his real motivations for teaching yoga.

(7)Harijiwan brags that he has taken more tantric yoga courses with Yogi Bhajan than anyone else. This is true as Harijiwan would use his ill-gotten gains from telemarketing scams to fly each weekend with his then wife Tej Kaur, to join Yogi Bhajan in the full tantric weekend, sitting as close to Yogi Bhajan as possible to feel the full effects of the “tantric energy”. Now if you believe like I do that Yogi Bhajan was a black magic tantric yogi, then this makes Harijiwan one of Yogi’s most powerful black magic tantric students.

(8)It appears from statements and practices of Harijiwan that he has renounced the basic tenants of Sikhism with all his preaching about auspicious time periods like the “Aquarian age” and the change of ages happening in 2012. It is forbidden in the Sikh Reht Maryada for Sikhs to practice: “Influence of stars, Magic spells, incantations, omens, auspicious times, days & occasions, horoscopic dispositions,” Chapter X Article XVI of the Sikh Reht. There was a reason why the Sikh Gurus never used magic and astrology, these occult practices are considered by most mainstream religions to be manipulative and lead to misuse of power and control over other people.

(9)One of Harijiwan’s main teaching practices revolves around using the “Gong” along with Kundalini Yoga. Harijiwan says himself, “As the Master, Yogi Bhajan tells us: “The gong is God. So it is said; so it is.” Regular listening to the gong will re-pattern your magnetic field, open you to the vastness of your own psyche, and release you from all that prevents you from living a life of complete and utter happiness.” In my 30 years of experience with the Yogi Bhajan way of smashing everyone into altered states by piling on more and more exercises, meditations and perhaps a gong meditation, I found this leaves people spacey and prone to induction into the Bhajan cult. The heavy breathing (breath of fire as Yogi Bhajan called it) techniques, loud gong sounds ringing in your ears and hours of Yogi Bhajan mantra chanting, sometimes in front of his picture, put unsuspecting people into an almost trance like state, making students even more susceptible to induction into the Yogi Bhajan cult. Yogi Bhajan would have us hold our arms up for hours in some “kriya” he made up. We were so exhausted after several hours that we’d believe or accept anything Yogi Bhajan said. So I believe this is the same approach Harijiwan is now taking as his cult leader and teacher, Yogi Bhajan did.

(10)You should also view Harijiwan’s many videos which are so filled with psychobabble nonsense about “Aquarian New Age energy” that I am sure Harijiwan doesn’t believe a word of it. Harijiwan only uses the promise of a “blissful New Age” as a way to manipulate and control people into following him by giving innocent students the “magic” and easy salvation they want to believe in.

You don't really want to do that." As I looked into his eyes (BIG mistake) I could feel myself dissolving. I could feel my aspirations to go back to school and to have a career as a counselor just disappear into a black void.

I continued to assert my intentions until they were fed up with me and I was dismissed. I went home and laid in my bed and felt the black vacuum that had opened up inside me. It took a while for "me" to come back.

Now, I realize that advanced practitioners of various sorts might say, "Well, that was your ego dissolving, the part of you that was attached to a particular identity." And that may be the case. Nonetheless: 1. The ego is our local address and we need it and imo it's no one's place to decide for someone else that their ego needs dissolving, and 2. YB was using what felt like occult powers to control me for his own purposes.

If I ever get to the point where my "ego" dissolves in a healthy way into the bliss of love and grace, that will be a whole other situation."

I'm so sorry you went through that. You made a very potent statement. It brings up a question that has confuddled me for a long time: If YB was a phony and a fraud, how could he also have such bizarre powers? I saw stuff that I can't deny...

One time in Gurdwara in Houston, around 1979, YB was standing up and addressing the sangat. His hands were pressed together in front of his chest, like in prayer, fingers intelocked except for his index fingers which were straight up and touching together at the tips. I saw a definite bright red glow between his index fingers, like the red glow on the finger of ET in the movie. I watched it for a long time- it wasn't a trick of the light

Another time, I remember walking up to the Gurdwara for a group prayer/meditation when YB was having his heart surgery. On the way up there I felt him leaning on me, hard. I mean real, heavy physical weight on my shoulder and back. I bent under that weight for over an hour, then it suddenly lifted. A couple of minutes later we got the message that the surgery was over and had been successful.

My impression of YB was that there was a dramatic change in him after that surgery. All of his classes and lectures seemed to focus entirely on money after that.

My husband and I knew a married couple... the wife wanted to go to school or do something (I can't remember exactly) for her career. Her husband didn't want her to. Her husband and YB hammered her for two hours until she gave in and gave up. It was a lot like what you described. Her husband actually bragged to us about how he had "broken her". It was absolutely sickening- it made me so angry!

Not long after that she left and divorced him.

Though I tried to deny it, I was always afraid when I was around YB, like I was in the presence of a deadly predator. He could shame me like no other... I couldn't think straight around him- my thoughts would get so confused. I realize now that I was entirely externally referenced on him. It was like the co-dependent handshake- reaching out to shake hands and saying, "Hi, you're fine. How am I?"

Did I give that power to him or did he take it? I don't know.

Violent sociopaths make me feel fear in my stomach. Demonic energy makes me quiver that way. That fear is my intuition ringing warning bells that I'm in danger. When YB made many of us feel that fear in our gut we discounted and rationalized our feelings as "being in our ego". We told ourselves he was doing it "for our own good". This is how abusers condition their victims to put up with abuse. This is how battered children and wives deny and minimize the abuser's actions- to make the situation bearable.

I think that many of us were pre-conditioned to be victimized by someone like YB, like most people in cults. But he also had something "extra" going for him. Black magic? Maybe so.

Alice Miller wrote an excellent book called "For Your Own Good: Hidden Cruelty in Child-Rearing and the Roots of Violence"

The only times I could get him to back off from an attack on me were when I invoked the Guru. Once during a break at a tantric course he tore into me in front of everybody, accusing me of blaming the Guru for all my problems. I said, "No, that's not true. I have a lot of problems but the Guru is the only thing that's good in my life. The Guru is perfect. I don't blame the Guru for anything."

He stared at me for a few seconds, then turned to my (now ex-) husband and shouted, "YOU'RE THE PROBLEM!" ... and proceeded to demolish him in front of 300 people.

"But he (Yogi Bhajan) also had something "extra" going for him. Black magic? Maybe so."

Gursant Singh says: I think there's little doubt that YB had a black magic tantric power thing going on, it's standard for tantric yogis in India. Just how deep he was into it I can't say but it appears from the stories that he regularly used these powers to manipulate and control people.

When Harijiwan Jr was arrested by Federal Postal inspectors in Los Angeles around 1999, we were working together at the time. HJ told me that the Federal investigators tried vigorously to make HJ confess that Yogi Bhajan and other 3HO kingpins like MSS Hari Jiwan were the leaders behind HJ's frauds. Evidently these postal inspectors based in Denver Colorado had spent months and millions of dollars investigating the telemarketing scams of 3HO. HJ further told me that after he refused to "roll over" on Yogi Bhajan, the postal inspectors told him something to the effect of "Tell your cult leader and your buddies in New Mexico and LA we're watching them."

Gursant Singh says: Do Harijiwan and Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa use occult black magic on their students? Recently I’ve had a unique opportunity to meet with leading Psychiatry Medical Doctors over the last year or so. I have to thank my wife who being a Psychiatrist here in London has made this interaction with such experts in the field of Psychiatry possible.

Did Yogi Bhajan exhibit delusions of religious grandeur? During my 30 years with Yogi Bhajan and his Kundalini/tantric Yoga cult, Yogi Bhajan continually told us how we (White 3HO Sikhs) would lead humanity into some kind of “Blissful Aquarian Age”! We certainly had delusions that Yogi Bhajan would be remembered as the great “guru” who gave us Kundalini Yogic power to lead the world.

The conclusion I reached from my conversations with these mental health experts was that Kundalini Yoga practitioners develop psychotic behavior with delusions of religious grandeur which seem to get worse and worse as the length of time practicing KY becomes greater. For example, People like Guruka Singh and Hari Jiwan Singh who have practiced Kundalini Yoga for 40 years make more outrageous delusional statements than a novice KY Teacher Trainer practicing Kundalini Yoga.

If you watch the videos of Guruka Singh and Gurmukh Kaur you’ll readily see how they appear to be almost in some kind of hypnotic trance, they just don’t sound like normal well balanced people. Does Kundalini Yoga create delusions about “Magic Aquarian Age energy" beaming down from Jupiter to instill yogic superpowers solely in Yogi Bhajan devotees so they can lead humanity into some kind of “Blissful Aquarian Age”?

Yesterday I was talking with a UK Medical Doctor about Kundalini Yoga and its effects on the human body. The Doctor explained how any exercise will make you feel happy with a sense of well-being because endorphins, namely adrenaline and nor-adrenaline, are released by the brain during heavy exercise. Doctors call these “Happy Hormones”. When Kundalini yoga practitioners say they experience an exalted sense of well-being they are merely feeling the effects of these “Happy Hormones” which are released by the brain after running or any other heavy exercise.

I ask SikhNet's Guruka Singh, "Why risk the many physical, mental and spiritual side effects of Kundalini Yoga when you can get the same benefits from other sports activities?"

Kundalini Yoga: Just a Harmless, Physical Exercise?

This summer, classes in Kundalini Yoga have been made available through the New Lenox Community Park District to members of the growing Illinois community. The ad in the park district's brochure assures the participant that through the use of movement, sound current, breath and meditation, Kundalini Yoga "brings a greater feeling of well-being and happiness" and can "heal your mind and body." While the mission of the New Lenox park district Board of Trustees is to provide "safe recreational opportunities" for residents, the ad does not make one aware of the potential physical, mental and spiritual dangers many yoga instructors warn about.
Such a promise of healing carries great responsibility and necessarily raises a few questions. What is Kundalini Yoga? Where did it come from? Why is it used? What are the risks involved? Who is the instructor?
Yoga is an ancient Hindu/occult spiritual discipline that can be traced back to the Indo-European people who lived in India during the 2nd millennium, B.C. Their religion was Vedism, which evolved into Hinduism. The Vedic sages have been credited for the development of yoga. The practice can be found in the Upanishads, which comprise the last part of the oldest religious Indian writings recorded, the Vedas, and in the Hindu favorite, the Bhagavad Gita, composed by the revered sage, Vyasa. These writings are claimed to have been "channeled" by the sages who were considered "seers," god-men with super-human powers capable of dematerializing and shape-shifting. It's assumed that masters of yoga possess occult powers such as telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, levitation, and mediumistic abilities.
Hinduism made a splash in the United States at the 1893 World Parliament of Religions held in Chicago, IL where Swami Vivekananda extolled its virtues as he called for the religions of the world to unite under its philosophy. In the 1920's, the Theosophical Society, co-founded by the famed Russian occultist, Helena P. Blavastky, based its headquarters in Wheaton, IL making a combination of Hinduism and other occult/mystical Eastern religious literature more available to Westerners.
During the 60's and 70's, a surge of gurus (men claiming to be gods) traveled from India to America on a mission to convert the West to Hinduism. Along with its companion, Transcendental Meditation, taught by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, yoga was quickly sold to Westerners as a great way to reduce stress, build self-esteem, heal the mind and body, and experience the interconnectedness of all creation.
Gurus know yoga is much more than a physical exercise. Those unaware of the spiritual nature of yoga, however, have often been subtly initiated into Eastern/occultic mysticism. Over a period of time, their world-view begins to change, and gradually, a different view of who God is, begins to emerge. As former Indian guru Rabi Maharaj explained, "There is no Hinduism without Yoga and there is no Yoga without Hinduism."
The Sanskrit word for yoga is "yuj," meaning "union." It's through the practice of yoga that Hindus believe they can experience their own divinity (called Self-realization or God-realization) as they unite with Brahman - the universal, divine, energy force found within all creation they call "God." Our problem, complains the guru, is that we forgot who we are. Yoga is the path used to remembering, and eventually becoming, our Higher Self (god), breaking a continuous cycle of karma (cause & effect) and reincarnation (deaths & rebirths).
So what is Kundalini Yoga? Often associated with Tantra Yoga, Kundalini Yoga is considered the fast way to enlightenment (becoming "god"). Laura Kalinski, yoga instructor for the New Lenox Park District, follows the teachings of the now deceased guru, Yogi Bhajan, who considered Kundalini Yoga a Raj Yoga (a royal path), because it combines all the traditional "eight limbs" of yoga together. The eight limbs are: moral restraint, self restraint through study and devotion to "God," postures, breath control, sensory inhibition, concentration - "fixing one's attention upon a selected object, whether a mantra or graphic representation of a deity," meditation - a "deepening of concentration marked by a progressive unification of consciousness," and finally, ecstasy - "one's complete merging with the object of meditation" (Tantra, The Path of Ecstasy, Georg Feuerstein, Shambala Pub., Inc., Boston, MA. 1998, pg. 124).
Kundalini (Sanskrit-kund), means "coiled" or "serpent" and represents divine, psychic energy called "serpent power." It is seen in the form of a coiled, female snake (the goddess aspect of the Divine) nestled at the base of the spine. For Hindus, who worship over 300 million gods, the aim of Kundalini Yoga is to reunite the goddess Shakti with her lover, Lord Shiva, god of destruction and creation, bringing about a state of bliss and enlightenment. This is the "bliss" the yoga practitioner is said to experience after raising the kundalini energy through seven chakras (energy centres) located from the base of the spine up the spinal column to the crown chakra, the top of the head. Psychic powers are purportedly acquired when a person opens their sixth chakra, the third eye-just above the middle of the eyebrows.
The body and hand positions (asanas & mudras) performed during yoga also have significance behind them. For example, the Cobra asana is taken from the movement of the snake which is revered in India. The Eagle asana is used to focus on the sixth chakra, helping one to attain psychic/occult powers. The Garuda mudra, "mystical bird," is used to enable communication with the spirit world. The Mantangi mudra represents the Hindu Goddess of Peace, and so forth.
Instructors use "sound current" in the form of mantras--chants said repeatedly to bring about a "higher" state of consciousness. The Adi mantra, Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo, is chanted a number of times to "tune in" oneself at the beginning of each Kundalini Yoga class. Ong Namo means, I bow to the subtle divine wisdom. Guru De Namo means, I bow to the Divine or Infinite Teacher within. Yogi Bhajan taught, "God is your inner consciousness." In a real sense, you are worshiping yourself. Chanting mantras are said to have penetrating power in the Cosmos connecting you to the deceased Bhajan and past Master Teachers in what is called The Golden Chain, providing divine guidance to the practitioner.
The chanting of mantras, breathing techniques, deep concentration and meditation in Kundalini Yoga brings one into an altered state of consciousness. This is a form of self-hypnosis, the roots of which lie in the occult.
The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis lists over fifty possible dangers from hypnosis in their American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis (Volume 31, Number 1, July 1988, pg. 46). It's no coincidence that many listed are the same risks yoga instructors warn about. Dangers of these practices include: severe headaches, depression, uncontrolled weeping or laughter, spasmodic jerking, feelings of intense heat or cold, electricity passing through the body and itching or crawling sensations, memory impairment, hallucinations, identity crisis, mental illness/insanity, suicidal thoughts/suicide, anxiety/panic attacks, heart palpitations, heart attack and death. On the other hand, one may experience intense feelings of a beautiful oneness with the universe, infinite love, and ecstatic bliss.
In his book, The Awakening of Kundalini," Gopi Krishna warned that prana (energy or life-force), can lead to blissful experiences, but if it isn't "properly attuned" can lead to feelings of fear, depression, anxiety and even "horrors of madness." He attributes years of unbearable, burning physical pain and mental anguish, to the practice of Kundalini Yoga and revealed: "I have passed through almost all the states of different mediumistic, psychotic and other types of mind; for some time I was hovering between sanity and insanity" (E. P. Dutton & Co., Inc., New York, 1975, pgs. 96, 97, 124).
Writing about Kundalini Yoga, Theosophist/occultist/medium, Alice Bailey, noted in her work, A Treatise on White Magic, that "only one in a thousand aspirants" are at the stage to begin such a practice and that may be "too optimistic." She warned it could "produce insanity" and made clear "it is a most dangerous undertaking when induced before the mechanism is ready to deal with it" (Lucis Publishing Company, New York NY, 1951, pgs. 590-591).
Well-known spiritual teacher, Jiddu Krishnamurti, suffered for years with excruciating headaches, visions, convulsions, shuddering and moaning, "much as a person possessed" - but called this "an inward cleansing" (Guiley, Rosemary Ellen, Harper's Encyclopedia of Mystical & Paranormal Experience, Harper SanFranciso, 1991, pg. 318).
Properly practiced or not, these and many other dangers exist, including spiritual ones. Besides the possibility of having one's worldview and definition of God altered, there is also the very real possibility of seeing, being oppressed by, and/or possessed by dis-embodied spirits (Christians call them demons). This is a well-known phenomenon and frequent occurrence to those deeply involved in the occult.
El Collie, a widely-recognized practitioner of Kundalini Yoga, wrote of her experiences with "outrageous telepathy, clairvoyance, and visitations from entities from other realms" in her online book, Branded by the Spirit. Collie, who saw herself as a shaman/priestess (witchdoctor) and a "conduit for the Spirit," described Kundalini as the Goddess who came to her when she "least expected it, pouring herself into her "through megavolts of energy" that turned her body into an "electrified living temple" (http://www.elcollie.com/st/chap1.html). Brilliant flashes of white light are common during a Kundalini awakening, said Collie, and are "often perceived in the presence of spirit guides or during divine visitations" (http://www.elcollie.com/st/light.html).
While some practitioners claim to see "Christ" or other "angelic" spiritual beings, others have had haunting, terrifying experiences they probably wish they could forget. Carole, a friend of author John Weldon, took up Hatha yoga for health reasons. "The night after receiving her mantra, Carole was visited by a spirit being who claimed to be the spirit of Swami Rama himself...She experienced wonderful powerful forces and energies, while thoughts entered her mind with a magnetic-like force." Carole believed she was communicating with the spirit world and had found God. But, after two weeks of meditation, "Carole became engulfed in a nightmare of utter dread and terror." There are many accounts like the ones I've provided above by those who are both for and against the occult practice.
New Lenox yoga instructor, Laura Kalinski (given the spiritual name, Balprem Kaur), is a member of 3HO - the Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization founded in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan, a guru from India who called himself the "Lord of the Heavens." Bhajan boasted about his occult powers and expertise in the occult practices of numerology, astrology, tarot cards, and more. He called for 3HO members to bring in the New Age of Aquarius saying, "The time has come not to search for God, but to be God." New Agers believe the Age of Pieces (the Judeo-Christian age of the West) must die out in order to bring peace and wholeness to the earth they worship.
While a Sikh by birth, Bhajan was denounced as a heretic by orthodox Sikhs for incorporating Hindu idols, occult numerology, fire pujas (sacred rituals making offerings to an image of a deity), and deviant sexual practices (Tantric Yoga) into the Sikh religion, all of which are strictly forbidden.
Some see the late, white-bearded, white-robed Bhajan as a great spiritual Master, but former members of his inner circle, including his top secretary, accused him of being a cult leader who had dictator-like control over his followers using psychological techniques, manipulation, fraud and deceit for money, power, and sexual favors.
Longtime member of 3HO, Gursant Singh, wrote these revealing words about Bhajan: "In his Journal Kundalini Research Institute of 3H0 and a number of his other papers, he leaves his followers in no doubt that he is the prophet of the new age with such mighty spiritual powers that he controls their destinies, their auras and their magnetic fields. He is their Master, their Spiritual Guide and their Guru. Without a living guru they cannot know the truth, and out of all the living gurus, he can reveal the truth best; and out of all his pictures, they must meditate on one picture of him..." On her Manhattan, IL website, Kalinski admits: "Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of awareness as taught by Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D, Master of Kundalini Yoga." It's not surprising to see statutes of a Hindu deity inside the Yoga 360 Studio and Spa in Frankfort, IL where Kalinski also works with Ram Nam Kaur. The instructors at the Studio acknowledge: "Yoga is a gift from ancient India, embraced by the West" and "is a practice which has the potential for deep transformation that both includes and extends beyond physical fitness" (http://www.yoga-360.com/aboutus/yogagivesback.html).
Cult expert Rick Ross cautions: "..if you see some guru's picture on the wall, or religious statues in the entrance area or practice room, something more than yoga might be lurking within the instruction...A group with a hidden agenda can use meditation to download its program" (http://www.cultnews.com/?cat=2).

3HO is increasingly trying to make getting certified as a Kundalini Yoga teacher a more and more costly and drawn-out process. Level I begets Level II which begets Level III (where I believe according to them do you only began to be able to call yourself a "yoga teacher") which will certainly beget a Level IV, bleeding you out of tens of thousands of dollars and months and years along the way.

As you investigate the sites and articles referenced on this website you will see that the purpose of yoga is not physical exercise but a path to spiritual "awakening" and "enlightenment" through union with the "divine." In order to bring about this "enlightenment" the overarching goal of yoga is to prepare oneself for the awakening of the spiritual energy or "kundalini" that supposedly lies dormant at the base of the spine. If Gurumustuck is referring to people coming to Yogi Bhajan's spiritual path as a result of Kundalini Yoga then maybe we can say that at most five thousand people have adopted a form of Sikhism which in many ways is contrary to the teachings of the Sikh Gurus. From my 30 years’ experience in Yogi Bhajan's form of Sikhism, I found it to have some good results but to a large degree produced greed, lust, anger (mostly of the passive aggressive form) and selfishness in the 3HOers who practiced it. Look at the current situation in 3HO where they are fighting now over the millions made by Yogi Bhajan's use of the sacred Sikh symbols and Shabads to sell breakfast cereal and Yogi Tea. You must agree that if you look at one side of 3HO in this dispute you see greedy people and on the other side you see angry closed minded individuals.

I submit that Kundalini Yoga is like an addictive drug which may seem to make people better but after time it acts in producing mental and physical side effects like delusions about the " Magic Aquarian Age energy" beaming down from Jupiter and the stars to liberate people who do Kundalini yoga on the banks of the Ganga river! See this video of Gurmukh kaur which shows clear delusional behavior.

The fact is there was every reason why the Sikh Gurus designed Sikhism in the way they did, as a complete spiritual path and a complete way of living a human life. Yogi Bhajan diverted from the teachings of the Gurus with his clap trap theories of Kundalini Yoga and now he and his 3HO cult are paying for it!

Well NO, if you examine the actual hard numbers of people who claim to have benefited from KY then we must acknowledge that maybe a few thousand “THINK” they've seen health benefits and feel their life is happier as a result of practicing Kundalini Yoga. It may appear there are large numbers of Yogi Bhajan KY beneficiaries but this is deceptive because 3HO members have high skills in technology and marketing, therefore their numbers seem larger. Witness the SikhNet phenomena. I would also say that Kundalini Yoga can be dangerous and many many people have actually reported on the internet that their lives have been affected in a very negative and destructive way by Yogi Bhajan and his Kundalini/Tantric Yoga, but of course Gurumustuck and SikhNet refuse to address this and only block people who want to discuss the issue. I ask Gurumustuck "What about the thousands who became disenchanted with Yogi Bhajan's form of Sikhism and left the Sikh faith completely?” Many people in 3HO who could afford to leave, left Yogi Bhajan and his KY cult, while the ones whose livelihood depended on teaching Kundalini Yoga and the 3HO business's like SikhNet, Golden Temple foods and Akal security stayed with the appearance of wearing Sikh Bana but many only attached to Kundalini Yoga for money: Witness Kartar Khalsa and this whole group of 3HO leaders whom Yogi Bhajan trusted above all. This group of 3HOers are now cutting their hair and leaving Sikhi for another guru. Out of the thousands that left 3HO, the fact remains that a mere hand full (maybe 10 people) remained Sikhs! Remember Yogi Bhajan's favorite saying "Fake it and you'll make it." This statement tells all there is to say about the benefits of YB's Kundalini Yoga!
The fact remains; there was every reason why the Sikh Gurus designed Sikhism in the way they did, as a complete spiritual path and a complete way of living a human life. Yogi Bhajan diverted from the teachings of the Gurus with his clap trap theories of Kundalini Yoga and now he and his 3HO cult are paying for it!

Tell you what, show me a history of YB style Kundalini Yoga that has a source other than YB himself and I will personally apologize to you on this forum or any other of your choice. It's not KY that is the issue. It is the many, many untruths that surround it including the well publicized lie that it came from the Sikh Gurus.

I can't speak for anyone else here but I know that I am not trying to. All I am asking for is truth. Truth about the sources of KY; truth about the Mahan Tantric nonsense; truth about YB and his activities with women other than his wife; truth about the fact that few if any of those in 3HO who carry the last name Khalsa are truly Khalsa.

Well, no. They may claim that but, in actual fact, 3HO exists to promote the myth of YB as an all powerful entity.

KY and the entire 3HO body of teaching and the YB cult are inexorably entwined. Few have even bothered to try and separate them; it is just assumed that they are mutually empowering.

How can the earth be healed when the dysfunctionality of 3HO is what sustains it? In order to progress spiritually (according to them) it is necessary to surrender to the Bhajan cult.

This projection - "They have come to heal the planet" - is along the same lines as "the USA will be fine just as soon as everyone votes liberal (or conservative). It's based in wishful thinking and not reality.

3HO Superstitions. Certain things were just taken as "fact" in 3ho because Yogi Bhajan had said them or people thought yogi Bhajan had said them. I am going to think of these things. Maybe you still ascribe to some, that's fine. But these things are not scientific facts. Anyone else, please feel free to join in.

1) Cotton is good for your aura. Polyester isn't.
2) White will make your aura larger. Colors do certain things for your aura, and plaids will just jumble it.
3) If you do kundalini yoga and be a vegetarian you will never have American diseases that old people get.
4)Eating meat will give you cancer, being a lacto vegetarian and you won't.
5) Eating fish will cause you to talk too much.
6) Wheatberries will clean your intestines out like a broom.
7) It is better to get a wind up watch because the battery will affect your electro-magnetic field.
8) It is good to do yoga on a sheepskin.
9) It is good to put a sheepskin on the seat of your car to affect your electro-magnetic field.

Yogi Bhajan sends me to work for 3HO "Toner Bandits" when I was 24 years old!

StillaSikh says: A phone room (Yogi Bhajan telemarketing boiler room) started up in Espanola (in 1989? 1990?). I went down there and saw the operation. My neighbors were on the phones, calling themselves things like Mary Smith and Bob Thomas. That didn't seem right, but they said they did it because the customers had too much trouble with Sikh names so I let it pass. I got a job in the packing room preparing shipments of typewriter ribbon, which suited me fine. I'd come in for a few hours after work to make some extra money.

After a few weeks I asked about the sales work because it supposedly paid better. One of my housemates had worked for GRD in LA; he told me that I could make $80,000 a year doing sales. That sounded great! The boss gave me a little script to read. It said something like, "Hi, my name is [fill in the blank]. I work for your copier company. We just revised the owner's manuals and want to send a new one out to you, but our computers are down so I don't know what your specific model number is. Can you please look and read it off to me so that I can send you the correct manual?"

According to the model number given, the people in the boiler room could tell what brand it was. They would wait 2-3 weeks, then a different person would call back and pretend to represent the company their machine was from. "Hi, I'm from Xerox/Canon/Sharp/... and I want to send you your toner..."

I started on a Friday and did my shtick for about four hours. They gave me a stack of cards with numbers to call, mostly charities because charities are often staffed by volunteers- naive people who are likely to give up the information. The Salvation Army. The Navaho Children's Milk Fund. Organizations that could not bear the cost of being ripped off. This felt wrong, but they told me that, "The Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan) knows about it and he says it's OK." However, the longer I did it the worse I felt.

One girl on the phone started crying. She said, "I really want to help you because I can tell by your voice that you're honest, but I gave out information once to someone over the phone and then we got this big bill, and my boss said that if I ever did it again he would fire me. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry! *SOB!*"

Sometime later, an old man said, "Young lady, you sound like a good girl and you know what you're doing is wrong. Stop, before you imperil your mortal soul." I felt like throwing up.

By that time, I was crying so hard I couldn't go on. Gave my stack of completed cards to the boss- and he was flabbergasted. He said the normal success rate for those cards was 15%, but I had gotten an 80% response. He wanted me to come back on Monday. I told him that I found myself rooting for the people on the other end of the line, hoping that they would hang up on me. He said that wasn't good, and asked me to think about it over the weekend- he really wanted me back.

I remember driving from there to the video shop in Espanola to return a movie. Everyone I looked at, I wondered, "Could I con them? Could I get them to believe a lie?" I had never seen people in that light before, but after only four hours of lying I was seeing people, not as fellow human beings but as potential marks. I was thinking like a predator. I had broken my Amrit vow to earn my living honestly by the sweat of my brow. Inside, I felt filthy- defiled - but no one had done it to me- I had done it to myself.

I cried in bed all that night and the next day. Someone suggested I call Guru Chander Singh. He wasn't much help and referred me to a certain someone who was high up in a certain security business that I will not name here. This "minister of Sikh Dharma" defended the phone room activity as "just business". Having owned my own business and been self employed for many years, I found myself arguing with him about business ethics (seemed he basically didn't believe in them).

In desperation, I then called Bhai Sahib Guru Liv Singh for spiritual counseling. My only interaction with him prior to this was a "pre-Amrit-vows" interview at Solstice. He didn't want to let me take Amrit because, in his opinion, I wasn't "Amritdari material". I took it anyway.

I told Guru Liv Singh that I had broken Amrit by lying on the phone to con people out of their money. He told me it was OK, that sometimes people had to do whatever it took to make a living. He kept making excuses as to why lying to make money wasn't bad. I told him that phone sex would be more honest work, because at least the customers knew what they were getting.

Finally I said, "If telling lies isn't breaking my vow to earn my living honestly, then I'm gonna go out, eat a steak, smoke a joint and get laid!"

"You can't do that!" he sputtered, "That would be wrong!"

Pointing out his inconsistency, I asked him point blank to explain why it was OK to lie when the vow specifically said to be honest. Then he confessed: money was tight and he was thinking of working there himself. Holy sh*t! I asked him if he really believed that God and Guru would take care of him? He was a Bhai Sahib- where was his faith? Then I told him that it seemed he needed spiritual counseling more than I did.

That Sunday I saw him after Gurdwara and he asked me what I had decided. I said if necesssary, I'd sell my body on the street for money before lying over the phone again... then I reminded him about how I wasn't Amritdari material. He went pale and couldn't look me in the eye.

My housemates got back in town, and I told them how torn up I was about having broken my Amrit vows. They told me that it was OK because, "The Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan) says there's no karma if you lie over the phone, because your aura isn't touching the other person's aura." WTF????? We got into a huge argument about it. The wife screamed in my face, "IF YOU THINK THE SIRI SINGH SAHIB'S WRONG, THEN _YOU'RE_ WRONG!"

After that, I made an anonymous call to a law enforcement agency, asking if certain hypothetical actions of a hypothetical phone room were legal or illegal. The man told me that it was so illegal, that if they ever busted such an operation all the employees would be led out in handcuffs. I had no intention of reporting the phone room, but I was terrified that someone else might. I shared this information with one of my neighbors, a mother of small children, and begged her to stop working there for her children's sake, if not for her own.

Then I went and took a Hukam and asked the Guru for guidance on working in the phone room. It's the only time I've ever read the Guru where it threatened fire and brimstone. My best recollection is, "Those who lie and think they can hide their actions from the True Lord, Death's myrmidon will claim them and they will be chained to a pillar of fire for eternity. But those who truly repent and seek forgiveness for their actions will be forgiven."

Copied it, typed it up, sent one copy to YB and tacked another copy to the front door of the phone room.

All hell broke loose on my head! Between posting the Hukam and someone reporting that I had called a law enforcement agency, they went on the warpath against me. A MSS accused me of "threatening a man's business". My response was that a legitimate business offered something of value to the customer: price, service or exceptional quality. This so-called "business" did none of those things, so was not a "business" to be defended, but was in fact a con.

And that, dear friends, is the 3HO business model!

I got into an argument with Hari Jiwan once! it was about the phone rooms, back when I was trying to get the one in Espanola stopped.

He (Hari Jiwan) told me that my problem was that I was hung up in Western Judeo-Christian ethics, and that those rules didn't apply to Sikhs. "Thou shalt not steal" and "Thou shalt not lie" were part of the Judeo-Christian code. He said that Sikhism wasn't a Judeo-Christian religion, so therefore wasn't bound by their code of ethics. I argued that Sikhism is intensely moral in its own right, completely against lying and stealing, but he just wouldn't listen.

He smugly told me that this came from the Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan), and if I didn't agree with The Siri Singh Sahib (Yogi Bhajan) then I wasn't a Sikh (this was the second time someone told me that). At that point I lost my temper. I jumped out of my chair, leaned across the desk and shouted into his face: "How DARE you tell me I'm not a Sikh! Apologize right now!"

He literally flew backwards in his chair and stuttered apologies at me. He was scared sh**less. I was really surprised by how scared he was.

It felt so satisfying, but after that my goose, as they say, was cooked.

SatSelf says; Oh, yes, my husband was one of The Chief of Protocol's (Hari Jiwan) acolytes and those types of things were said to me on a regular basis. I was also told (in scathing tones) that I was "too good" because I had been raised Catholic. I think William Butler Yeats must have been describing our modern zeitgeist when he wrote:

Gursant Singh says: Thank you for sharing this detailed account of your YB boiler room experience. I too worked in this environment but I continued down "the slippery slope" into even worse avenues with Harijiwan Jr. who was just sending out invoices with no product! I justified it all because in 1981 Yogi Bhajan personally sent me over to sell at the GRD boiler room in LA under MSS Hari Jiwan Singh's tutelage where I learned all kinds of tricks and illegal activities.

I told Yogi Bhajan that I wanted to be a psychologist and counsel people. I was 24 years old and had just graduated from the U of O and become a certified practitioner of NLP. Yogi Bhajan told me with no uncertain words. "How are you going to make any money, go over to GRD (The 3HO boiler room) and MSS Hari Jiwan Singh will teach you how to make money."

After seeing from Yogi Bhajan & Hari Jiwan that just about anything is justified as long as it makes a buck, as I do with everything I take on, I went out 100% with this "hukam from the master". Now of course I realize just how insane and Un Sikh like Yogi Bhajan and Hari Jiwan are.

Your post has inspired me to try and design a way to compensate victims of the YBer's boiler rooms. Does anybody know a way victims of this crime could be contacted and compensated? The problem is that most never realize they've been burned because of most companies' poor accounting.

I believe Siri Mukta ("Special Assistant to the Siri Singh Sahib(Yogi Bhajan)of Sikh Dharma" from Espanola still runs a boiler room selling toner for copy machines in Espanola?

Gursant Singh says: MSS Sat Peter Singh was getting questionable (I didn't know this at the time) "signed limited edition serigraphs" from this Robert Goldman character that I was defrauded by and other distributors and then selling them on the phone to doctors at highly inflated prices. There was later even a piece on CBS 60 minutes about the whole Dali art scam.

Anyway, I worked for Sat Peter for a time and got connected with Goldman who started offering me "investment" opportunities to buy art, mainly Andy Warhol serigraphs which Goldman promised to turn around and sell at huge profits. Being young and vulnerable I approached various people in the LA 3HO sangat with this "investment" opportunity. Siri Sant Singh who was married to Victor Forsythe's sister at the time was really excited and he offered their house as collateral for a loan to have me invest in some Andy Warhol art. I think Forsythe is confused about the Kettle Chip connection because nobody at Kettle chips was involved. Maybe Forsythe saw that Siri Sant Singh was involved with selling health food along with MSS Sada Sat Singh who also invested money but was paid back his principle along with 5% interest per month and this is where Forsythe got the idea that people at Kettle chips were involved.

Bhajbuster says: Sat Peter was selling art to doctors over the phone? That takes real skill. His MSS credentials would have been a wasted asset in the toner room. Any karma over the phone in the art biz or was the no karma edict (by Yogi bhajan) in effect solely for the toner sadhana?

Gursant Singh says: Sat Peter's art biz was right above the GRD toner boiler room so maybe that put them closer to God or they picked up the vibes from the toner room below. It seems the karma hit everyone involved so I don't think Yogi Bhajan's "No karma over the phone" held water.

I wasn't a Mukia but I did some pretty bad and even illegal stuff under Yogi Bhajan's, MSS Hari Jiwan's, MSS Sat Peter Singh's, MSS Sada Sat Singh's & Harijiwan Singh Jr's tutelage. I realize now that I scammed hundreds of thousands of dollars off people in the "Dharma" and even more from people outside 3HO. I did it all with the thought that the means justified the end of getting money to promote Yogi Bhajan's "Dharma". How ironic that my actions were really destroying it.

I will say that the money I borrowed from people in the Dharma for art investments towards the mid 80’s was done in good faith by me although I used very poor judgment. Mukias and Yogi Bhajan who were watching me should have stepped in and stopped the whole thing but instead MSS Sada Sat Singh, Harijiwan Jr, Kirpal Singh and a few other higher ups took large profits and left the peons and myself for that matter, with empty pockets. I gave Yogi Bhajan large amounts of cash but YB was always very clever not to involve himself directly in these scams although I am sure he knew about them.

YB did however involve himself in at least one scam with an Indian Sikh from Vancouver named Swaran Singh to get a house from a nice Hispanic couple I represented who lived near the Ranch. I think I've told this story before here on Wacko World so I'll suffice it to say that I was the Real Estate agent for the Hispanic couple and by then I was getting wiser to YB's frauds. I ended up telling both YB and Swaran Singh that I had a fiduciary responsibility to the Hispanic couple and I would fight them tooth and nail before they took the Martinez’s house. Both YB & Swaran were very angry at me as a result of losing the lawsuit that MSS Guru Terath Singh brought against the Hispanic couple. Swaran Singh even called me his "enemy" for life and YB told other people in 3HO that he was angry at me and to "get that Gursant Singh".

Anyway, I take responsibility for my actions and I want to not only apologize to those people I took money from but I want to make some monetary amends by selling the YB artwork I have mentioned owning and then reimburse these people to try and make them whole again at least financially.

Gursant Singh says: I consider that the people I scammed were also "burned" by Yogi Bhajan in a way too. I think those people who lost money think that also since I was so young and under Yogi Bhajan's direction. If you read the blog by Mr. Forsythe about losing the family home over the art investments, he points the finger of blame directly at Yogi Bhajan.

I will say however there are several in accuracies in his blog. The amount they loaned me was $80,000 and I paid about $800 per month for several years to them along with a $10,000 lump sum. There was never any written guarantee for the loan by anyone else but myself. The mother had transferred the house to her daughter Harprakash who gave me the loan supposedly to avoid IRS liens. I also tried to help them sell their house when the market was high but they refused because one brother was living in the house that the rest of the family had a restraining order against. A few years later the house went into foreclosure. It was apparent the man I had invested the money with for the artwork, Robert Goldman (a supplier of MSS Sat Peter Singh) would never pay me back and had defrauded me as he was being investigated by the LA police and was called before a Grand Jury for art fraud. I had lost hundreds of thousands of dollars of my own money and therefore was in financial distress by then too. I moved to Espanola and had to stop making payments to the Forsythes. My mother bought the house listed below from Yogi Bhajan with her own money and I lived in the house until 2007.

MSS Hari Jiwan Singh Khalsa brags to have been Yogi Bhajan’s closest aid, literally with Yogi Bhajan everyday between 1978 and 2004. Hari Jiwan shows the American Sikh community in a letter dated 11/4/2011 his complete disdain for Sikhs of Punjabi ancestry when he says,

"There was one problem. Every time I’d run into an Indian Sikh, I’d feel accosted and tested. I was tested in the Indian custom so they could rationalize their superiority. The truth is that Yogi Bhajan was telling Hari Jiwan to lie and just "fake it and you'll make it"! Hari Jiwan and Yogi Bhajan for that matter did NOT "just chant Waheguru" but rather were actively doing beadbi (sacrilegious actions) against Siri Guru Granth Sahib Ji with all Yogi Bhajan’s tantra mantra anti Sikh practices.

This law enforcement effort comprised of approximately 61 law-enforcement actions. In its complaint detailing the charges, the FTC alleged that the defendants routinely misrepresented the risk, value, appreciation and liquidity of the gemstones they sold and falsely claimed that consumers would realize tremendous profits. In addition, the defendants falsely pledged that they could and would easily liquidate consumers' gemstone portfolios after an 18-month holding period. In fact, according to the FTC, the defendants typically ceased all contact with consumers and refused to liquidate their gemstones after the 18-month period. Shortly after the complaint was filed, the court issued a temporary restraining order, froze the defendants' assets and appointed a temporary receiver over the corporate defendants.
I went to Jerry's shop in Beverly Hills with YB and HJ almost every day as I was on YB's security. I also took Shakti Parwha Kaur to Wells Fargo bank on Wilshire Blvd in Beverly Hills about three times a week to get gems and a new set of YB's jewellery that he would adorn himself with for that particular day depending on what the astrological stars said he should wear. Shakti would say, "Let's go get the crown jewels." When Shakti and I entered the room at the bank to open the numerous safe deposit boxes full of the precious stones, I was shocked the first time I saw the outrageous amount of trays displaying these huge gemstones.
Around the year 2000, Yogi Bhajan tried to personally sell me a yogic ring for several thousand dollars. We were at Hari Jiwan's house in Espanola where HJ keeps a vast collection of gems worth millions of dollars. Yogi Bhajan told me. "You're naked." And he stated I needed a ring with a particular stone to protect me.

Here I think is the crux of the problem with YBers. YBers refuse to admit any significant fault with Yogi Bhajan, eventhough YB himself admitted he had many faults. While I'll admit YB did some good, his faults were clearly many and YB should never be referred to or treated as a Satguru! YB was miles behind true Satgurus like Guru Nanak Dev Ji or Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

It was always my understanding that while everyone always fought and jockeyed to be close to YB, it was usually the craziest, most corrupt, sycophantic and sketchiest that were always by his side. Hardly sounds like a distinction. I also remember people telling me, "The closer you get to Espanola, the crazier it is."

Not to be completely cynical, but I have to wonder what the reasoning is behind this gush of sentimentality from the Chief of Protocol. In the wake of YB's death it seemed like many of the high muckity-mucks were subtly trying to play up angles that would give them legitimacy or authority, or at least some type of it: everything from flaunting their weird titles or starting to call themselves a "master" or "expert", to false-modest claims of siddhis, to personal stories that would range from personal reminiscences like this to more ooga-booga ones of "The SSS once gave me a SPECIAL meditation to do..." From what I've heard the banter from the Secretaries/White Tantric moderators during that time sounded like auditions for American Idol.

I guess with the Chief of Protocol's story, like all things, time will shake it out, and it will at the very least, be interesting.

An X-YBer busnessman once told me that while in YBism, Yogi Bhajan took him and a couple other YBer Bros into a jewelry store in Chinatown in San Francisco. There YB messed with a Chinese woman's head until she sold him the gem he wanted for far far less than she bought it for. Had she been more sensitive, she would have given Saint YB the pretty rock as a gift.

(As an aside, I find it incredibly crass to name a gem company after the Nau-Nidh/Nine Treasures spoken of in the SGGS. Anyone with half a mind would not take this literally when there are so many shabads that mention the Naam as containing all nine treasures and finding the nine treasures within one's Self. It's like a Christian expecting "the gifts of the Holy Spirit" to arrive via UPS and be wrapped in a bow and ribbon.)

Whenever HJS Jr's jail time is mentioned, 3HOers seem quick to say that he did time mostly because he wouldn't snitch on others.

This means that:
1) 3HOers on one level are able to digest the fact that there was a bigger crime being committed within the castle walls, and are not only OK with that, but...
2) Believe in some kind of nobility in covering up for other people who blatantly stole money, because they were "dharmic."

"Bhajan was a leader ‘by fluke’

Recently, a friend sent me articles from The Register-Guard on litigation involving Yogi Bhajan’s organizations in Oregon. The letters to the editor that followed, critical of the reporter, prompt me to throw some light on the subject. Bhajan was extremely good at what he did, but propagation of Sikhism he was not. Criticism of Bhajan’s cult cannot be construed as criticism of Sikhism.

Trilochan Singh, a distinguished Sikh scholar, in his 1977 book “Sikhism and Tantric Yoga,” describes Bhajan devastatingly: “Yogi Bhajan is a Sikh by birth, a Maha Tantric by choice but without training, and a ‘Sri Singh Sahib’ and self-styled leader of the Sikhs of the Western Hemisphere by fluke and mysterious strategy.” There was no mystery to his strategy. He ingratiated himself with the Sikh religious leadership in Punjab, which was more corrupt than the Vatican during the time of Martin Luther.

According to the Tantrics, the best form of worship is the fullest satisfaction of the sexual desires of man, therefore sexual intercourse is prescribed as a part of Tantric worship. In the annals of abuse of women, some had harems, others had concubines and Bhajan had secretaries. The Sikh gurus condemned the Tantrics and their practices. All the cases mentioned in The Register-Guard had merit.

Humility is the hallmark of a Sikh, and Bhajan had none of it. Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, describes people such as Bhajan succinctly: “Those ... who have no virtues but are filled with egotistical pride.”

In a painting at the New Mexico 3HO Gurdwara(above)you can see the sacrilegious misrepresentation of our sacred Khalsa symbol "Khanda" with two swords around it. You may also observe in this painting how Yogi Bhajan is depicted on an equal level with Guru Ram Daas(the 4th Sikh Guru): Dr. Trilochan Singh recounts this observation in 1977 when he writes, "The other picture was the Khalsa symbol Khanda with two swords around it. The Khanda (double-edged sword) within this symbol was replaced by a picture of an American woman with Sari-like robes. The woman is called Adi Shakti. I saw this published in the Beads of Truth in London and have already commented on it in my book, The Turban and the Sword of the Sikhs. I told Shakti Parwha that this is the most sacrilegious misrepresentation of our sacred symbol. As usual she dismissed my opinion as unimportant."

Gursant Singh says: I know it sounds bizarre to westerners and "educated" people but if you've ever lived in India like myself for any length of time you may understand more of this idea that Yogi Bhajan almost seems possessed by a demon or controlled by black magic. I think YB could have gotten involved with some kind of tantric cult at an early age. I have talked to several people from India who after viewing YB's videos and hearing my experiences feel strongly there is a case to be made for YB's involvement in black magic and the occult.

I sat at YB's feet (the default position for petitioners and those in need of correction). He thundered, "What is this that you want to become a counselor. I don't believe you. You don't really want to do that." As I looked into his eyes (BIG mistake) I could feel myself dissolving. I could feel my aspirations to go back to school and to have a career as a counselor just disappear into a black void.

I continued to assert my intentions until they were fed up with me and I was dismissed. I went home and laid in my bed and felt the black vacuum that had opened up inside me. It took a while for "me" to come back.

Now, I realize that advanced practitioners of various sorts might say, "Well, that was your ego dissolving, the part of you that was attached to a particular identity." And that may be the case. Nonetheless: 1. The ego is our local address and we need it and imo it's no one's place to decide for someone else that their ego needs dissolving, and 2. YB was using what felt like occult powers to control me for his own purposes.

If I ever get to the point where my "ego" dissolves in a healthy way into the bliss of love and grace, that will be a whole other situation."

I'm so sorry you went through that. You made a very potent statement. It brings up a question that has confuddled me for a long time: If YB was a phony and a fraud, how could he also have such bizarre powers? I saw stuff that I can't deny...

One time in Gurdwara in Houston, around 1979, YB was standing up and addressing the sangat. His hands were pressed together in front of his chest, like in prayer, fingers intelocked except for his index fingers which were straight up and touching together at the tips. I saw a definite bright red glow between his index fingers, like the red glow on the finger of ET in the movie. I watched it for a long time- it wasn't a trick of the light

Another time, I remember walking up to the Gurdwara for a group prayer/meditation when YB was having his heart surgery. On the way up there I felt him leaning on me, hard. I mean real, heavy physical weight on my shoulder and back. I bent under that weight for over an hour, then it suddenly lifted. A couple of minutes later we got the message that the surgery was over and had been successful.

My impression of YB was that there was a dramatic change in him after that surgery. All of his classes and lectures seemed to focus entirely on money after that.

My husband and I knew a married couple... the wife wanted to go to school or do something (I can't remember exactly) for her career. Her husband didn't want her to. Her husband and YB hammered her for two hours until she gave in and gave up. It was a lot like what you described. Her husband actually bragged to us about how he had "broken her". It was absolutely sickening- it made me so angry!

Not long after that she left and divorced him.

Though I tried to deny it, I was always afraid when I was around YB, like I was in the presence of a deadly predator. He could shame me like no other... I couldn't think straight around him- my thoughts would get so confused. I realize now that I was entirely externally referenced on him. It was like the co-dependent handshake- reaching out to shake hands and saying, "Hi, you're fine. How am I?"

Did I give that power to him or did he take it? I don't know.

Violent sociopaths make me feel fear in my stomach. Demonic energy makes me quiver that way. That fear is my intuition ringing warning bells that I'm in danger. When YB made many of us feel that fear in our gut we discounted and rationalized our feelings as "being in our ego". We told ourselves he was doing it "for our own good". This is how abusers condition their victims to put up with abuse. This is how battered children and wives deny and minimize the abuser's actions- to make the situation bearable.

I think that many of us were pre-conditioned to be victimized by someone like YB, like most people in cults. But he also had something "extra" going for him. Black magic? Maybe so.

Alice Miller wrote an excellent book called "For Your Own Good: Hidden Cruelty in Child-Rearing and the Roots of Violence"

The only times I could get him to back off from an attack on me were when I invoked the Guru. Once during a break at a tantric course he tore into me in front of everybody, accusing me of blaming the Guru for all my problems. I said, "No, that's not true. I have a lot of problems but the Guru is the only thing that's good in my life. The Guru is perfect. I don't blame the Guru for anything."

He stared at me for a few seconds, then turned to my (now ex-) husband and shouted, "YOU'RE THE PROBLEM!" ... and proceeded to demolish him in front of 300 people.

"But he (Yogi Bhajan) also had something "extra" going for him. Black magic? Maybe so."

Gursant Singh says: I think there's little doubt that YB had a black magic tantric power thing going on, it's standard for tantric yogis in India. Just how deep he was into it I can't say but it appears from the stories that he regularly used these powers to manipulate and control people.

Gursant Singh says: Wow! Reading this was like a light bulb going on in my brain, I don’t know why I never remembered this before now. When Harijiwan Jr was arrested by Federal Postal inspectors in Los Angeles around 1999, we were working together at the time. HJ told me that the Federal investigators tried vigorously to make HJ confess that Yogi Bhajan and other 3HO kingpins like MSS Hari Jiwan were the leaders behind HJ's frauds. Evidently these postal inspectors based in Denver Colorado had spent months and millions of dollars investigating the telemarketing scams of 3HO. HJ further told me that after he refused to "roll over" on Yogi Bhajan, the postal inspectors told him something to the effect of "Tell your cult leader and your buddies in New Mexico and LA we're watching them."

Gursant Singh says: Do Harijiwan and Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa use occult black magic on their students? Harijiwan teaches yoga with another world famous yoga teacher, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa at her Golden Bridge yoga centres in both Los Angeles and New York.Look at this nonsense on Harijiwan's facebook page: "Light Beam to the Evening Star" It should read "Beam me your money!" Recently I’ve had a unique opportunity to meet with leading Psychiatry Medical Doctors over the last year or so. I have to thank my wife who being a Psychiatrist here in London has made this interaction with such experts in the field of Psychiatry possible.

Did Yogi Bhajan exhibit delusions of religious grandeur? During my 30 years with Yogi Bhajan and his Kundalini/tantric Yoga cult, Yogi Bhajan continually told us how we (White 3HO Sikhs) would lead humanity into some kind of “Blissful Aquarian Age”! We certainly had delusions that Yogi Bhajan would be remembered as the great “guru” who gave us Kundalini Yogic power to lead the world.

The conclusion I reached from my conversations with these mental health experts was that Kundalini Yoga practitioners develop psychotic behavior with delusions of religious grandeur which seem to get worse and worse as the length of time practicing KY becomes greater. For example, People like Guruka Singh and Hari Jiwan Singh who have practiced Kundalini Yoga for 40 years make more outrageous delusional statements than a novice KY Teacher Trainer practicing Kundalini Yoga.

If you watch the videos of Guruka Singh and Gurmukh Kaur you’ll readily see how they appear to be almost in some kind of hypnotic trance, they just don’t sound like normal well balanced people. Does Kundalini Yoga create delusions about “Magic Aquarian Age energy" beaming down from Jupiter to instill yogic superpowers solely in Yogi Bhajan devotees so they can lead humanity into some kind of “Blissful Aquarian Age”?

Guruka Singh of SikhNet at Sikh Missionary Society in Southhall UK promoting Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini Yoga.Cult expert Rick Ross cautions: "..if you see some guru's picture on the wall, or religious statues in the entrance area or practice room, something more than yoga might be lurking within the instruction...A group with a hidden agenda can use meditation to download its program"

I submit that Kundalini Yoga is like an addictive drug which may seem to help people out of their depression and alcohol addictions but after time it acts in producing mental and physical side effects. Kundalini Yoga practitioners develop psychotic delusions about "Magic Aquarian Age energy" beaming down from the stars. These Yogi Bhajan cult followers then fantasize they’re super heroes leading and liberating all those who do Kundalini yoga into some kind of “New Age of Enlightenment”!

In my experience,the Yogi Bhajan way of smashing everyone into altered states by piling on more and more exercises, meditations and perhaps a gong meditation leaves people spacey and prone to induction into his cult. That’s probably why he (Yogi Bhajan) did it and why Kundalini Yoga teachers keep on doing it. The heavy breathing (breath of fire as Yogi Bhajan called it) techniques, loud gong sounds ringing in your ears and hours of Yogi Bhajan mantra chanting, sometimes in front of his picture, put unsuspecting people into an almost trance like state, making students more susceptible to induction into the Yogi Bhajan cult. The Doctor explained how any exercise will make you feel happy with a sense of well-being because endorphins, namely adrenaline and nor-adrenaline, are released by the brain during heavy exercise. Doctors call these “Happy Hormones”. When Kundalini yoga practitioners say they experience an exalted sense of well-being they are merely feeling the effects of these “Happy Hormones” which are released by the brain after running or any other heavy exercise.

Kundalini Yoga: Just a Harmless, Physical Exercise?

This summer, classes in Kundalini Yoga have been made available through the New Lenox Community Park District to members of the growing Illinois community. The ad in the park district's brochure assures the participant that through the use of movement, sound current, breath and meditation, Kundalini Yoga "brings a greater feeling of well-being and happiness" and can "heal your mind and body." While the mission of the New Lenox park district Board of Trustees is to provide "safe recreational opportunities" for residents, the ad does not make one aware of the potential physical, mental and spiritual dangers many yoga instructors warn about.
Such a promise of healing carries great responsibility and necessarily raises a few questions. What is Kundalini Yoga? Where did it come from? Why is it used? What are the risks involved? Who is the instructor?
Yoga is an ancient Hindu/occult spiritual discipline that can be traced back to the Indo-European people who lived in India during the 2nd millennium, B.C. Their religion was Vedism, which evolved into Hinduism. The Vedic sages have been credited for the development of yoga. The practice can be found in the Upanishads, which comprise the last part of the oldest religious Indian writings recorded, the Vedas, and in the Hindu favorite, the Bhagavad Gita, composed by the revered sage, Vyasa. These writings are claimed to have been "channeled" by the sages who were considered "seers," god-men with super-human powers capable of dematerializing and shape-shifting. It's assumed that masters of yoga possess occult powers such as telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, levitation, and mediumistic abilities.
Hinduism made a splash in the United States at the 1893 World Parliament of Religions held in Chicago, IL where Swami Vivekananda extolled its virtues as he called for the religions of the world to unite under its philosophy. In the 1920's, the Theosophical Society, co-founded by the famed Russian occultist, Helena P. Blavastky, based its headquarters in Wheaton, IL making a combination of Hinduism and other occult/mystical Eastern religious literature more available to Westerners.
During the 60's and 70's, a surge of gurus (men claiming to be gods) traveled from India to America on a mission to convert the West to Hinduism. Along with its companion, Transcendental Meditation, taught by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, yoga was quickly sold to Westerners as a great way to reduce stress, build self-esteem, heal the mind and body, and experience the interconnectedness of all creation.
Gurus know yoga is much more than a physical exercise. Those unaware of the spiritual nature of yoga, however, have often been subtly initiated into Eastern/occultic mysticism. Over a period of time, their world-view begins to change, and gradually, a different view of who God is, begins to emerge. As former Indian guru Rabi Maharaj explained, "There is no Hinduism without Yoga and there is no Yoga without Hinduism."
The Sanskrit word for yoga is "yuj," meaning "union." It's through the practice of yoga that Hindus believe they can experience their own divinity (called Self-realization or God-realization) as they unite with Brahman - the universal, divine, energy force found within all creation they call "God." Our problem, complains the guru, is that we forgot who we are. Yoga is the path used to remembering, and eventually becoming, our Higher Self (god), breaking a continuous cycle of karma (cause & effect) and reincarnation (deaths & rebirths).
So what is Kundalini Yoga? Often associated with Tantra Yoga, Kundalini Yoga is considered the fast way to enlightenment (becoming "god"). Laura Kalinski, yoga instructor for the New Lenox Park District, follows the teachings of the now deceased guru, Yogi Bhajan, who considered Kundalini Yoga a Raj Yoga (a royal path), because it combines all the traditional "eight limbs" of yoga together. The eight limbs are: moral restraint, self restraint through study and devotion to "God," postures, breath control, sensory inhibition, concentration - "fixing one's attention upon a selected object, whether a mantra or graphic representation of a deity," meditation - a "deepening of concentration marked by a progressive unification of consciousness," and finally, ecstasy - "one's complete merging with the object of meditation" (Tantra, The Path of Ecstasy, Georg Feuerstein, Shambala Pub., Inc., Boston, MA. 1998, pg. 124).
Kundalini (Sanskrit-kund), means "coiled" or "serpent" and represents divine, psychic energy called "serpent power." It is seen in the form of a coiled, female snake (the goddess aspect of the Divine) nestled at the base of the spine. For Hindus, who worship over 300 million gods, the aim of Kundalini Yoga is to reunite the goddess Shakti with her lover, Lord Shiva, god of destruction and creation, bringing about a state of bliss and enlightenment. This is the "bliss" the yoga practitioner is said to experience after raising the kundalini energy through seven chakras (energy centres) located from the base of the spine up the spinal column to the crown chakra, the top of the head. Psychic powers are purportedly acquired when a person opens their sixth chakra, the third eye-just above the middle of the eyebrows.
The body and hand positions (asanas & mudras) performed during yoga also have significance behind them. For example, the Cobra asana is taken from the movement of the snake which is revered in India. The Eagle asana is used to focus on the sixth chakra, helping one to attain psychic/occult powers. The Garuda mudra, "mystical bird," is used to enable communication with the spirit world. The Mantangi mudra represents the Hindu Goddess of Peace, and so forth.
Instructors use "sound current" in the form of mantras--chants said repeatedly to bring about a "higher" state of consciousness. The Adi mantra, Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo, is chanted a number of times to "tune in" oneself at the beginning of each Kundalini Yoga class. Ong Namo means, I bow to the subtle divine wisdom. Guru De Namo means, I bow to the Divine or Infinite Teacher within. Yogi Bhajan taught, "God is your inner consciousness." In a real sense, you are worshiping yourself. Chanting mantras are said to have penetrating power in the Cosmos connecting you to the deceased Bhajan and past Master Teachers in what is called The Golden Chain, providing divine guidance to the practitioner.
The chanting of mantras, breathing techniques, deep concentration and meditation in Kundalini Yoga brings one into an altered state of consciousness. This is a form of self-hypnosis, the roots of which lie in the occult.
The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis lists over fifty possible dangers from hypnosis in their American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis (Volume 31, Number 1, July 1988, pg. 46). It's no coincidence that many listed are the same risks yoga instructors warn about. Dangers of these practices include: severe headaches, depression, uncontrolled weeping or laughter, spasmodic jerking, feelings of intense heat or cold, electricity passing through the body and itching or crawling sensations, memory impairment, hallucinations, identity crisis, mental illness/insanity, suicidal thoughts/suicide, anxiety/panic attacks, heart palpitations, heart attack and death. On the other hand, one may experience intense feelings of a beautiful oneness with the universe, infinite love, and ecstatic bliss.
In his book, The Awakening of Kundalini," Gopi Krishna warned that prana (energy or life-force), can lead to blissful experiences, but if it isn't "properly attuned" can lead to feelings of fear, depression, anxiety and even "horrors of madness." He attributes years of unbearable, burning physical pain and mental anguish, to the practice of Kundalini Yoga and revealed: "I have passed through almost all the states of different mediumistic, psychotic and other types of mind; for some time I was hovering between sanity and insanity" (E. P. Dutton & Co., Inc., New York, 1975, pgs. 96, 97, 124).
Writing about Kundalini Yoga, Theosophist/occultist/medium, Alice Bailey, noted in her work, A Treatise on White Magic, that "only one in a thousand aspirants" are at the stage to begin such a practice and that may be "too optimistic." She warned it could "produce insanity" and made clear "it is a most dangerous undertaking when induced before the mechanism is ready to deal with it" (Lucis Publishing Company, New York NY, 1951, pgs. 590-591).
Well-known spiritual teacher, Jiddu Krishnamurti, suffered for years with excruciating headaches, visions, convulsions, shuddering and moaning, "much as a person possessed" - but called this "an inward cleansing" (Guiley, Rosemary Ellen, Harper's Encyclopedia of Mystical & Paranormal Experience, Harper SanFranciso, 1991, pg. 318).
Properly practiced or not, these and many other dangers exist, including spiritual ones. Besides the possibility of having one's worldview and definition of God altered, there is also the very real possibility of seeing, being oppressed by, and/or possessed by dis-embodied spirits (Christians call them demons). This is a well-known phenomenon and frequent occurrence to those deeply involved in the occult.
El Collie, a widely-recognized practitioner of Kundalini Yoga, wrote of her experiences with "outrageous telepathy, clairvoyance, and visitations from entities from other realms" in her online book, Branded by the Spirit. Collie, who saw herself as a shaman/priestess (witchdoctor) and a "conduit for the Spirit," described Kundalini as the Goddess who came to her when she "least expected it, pouring herself into her "through megavolts of energy" that turned her body into an "electrified living temple" (http://www.elcollie.com/st/chap1.html). Brilliant flashes of white light are common during a Kundalini awakening, said Collie, and are "often perceived in the presence of spirit guides or during divine visitations" (http://www.elcollie.com/st/light.html).
While some practitioners claim to see "Christ" or other "angelic" spiritual beings, others have had haunting, terrifying experiences they probably wish they could forget. Carole, a friend of author John Weldon, took up Hatha yoga for health reasons. There are many accounts like the ones I've provided above by those who are both for and against the occult practice.
New Lenox yoga instructor, Laura Kalinski (given the spiritual name, Balprem Kaur), is a member of 3HO - the Healthy, Happy, Holy Organization founded in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan, a guru from India who called himself the "Lord of the Heavens." Bhajan boasted about his occult powers and expertise in the occult practices of numerology, astrology, tarot cards, and more. He called for 3HO members to bring in the New Age of Aquarius saying, "The time has come not to search for God, but to be God." New Agers believe the Age of Pieces (the Judeo-Christian age of the West) must die out in order to bring peace and wholeness to the earth they worship.
While a Sikh by birth, Bhajan was denounced as a heretic by orthodox Sikhs for incorporating Hindu idols, occult numerology, fire pujas (sacred rituals making offerings to an image of a deity), and deviant sexual practices (Tantric Yoga) into the Sikh religion, all of which are strictly forbidden.
Some see the late, white-bearded, white-robed Bhajan as a great spiritual Master, but former members of his inner circle, including his top secretary, accused him of being a cult leader who had dictator-like control over his followers using psychological techniques, manipulation, fraud and deceit for money, power, and sexual favors.
Longtime member of 3HO, Gursant Singh, wrote these revealing words about Bhajan: "In his Journal Kundalini Research Institute of 3H0 and a number of his other papers, he leaves his followers in no doubt that he is the prophet of the new age with such mighty spiritual powers that he controls their destinies, their auras and their magnetic fields. He is their Master, their Spiritual Guide and their Guru. Without a living guru they cannot know the truth, and out of all the living gurus, he can reveal the truth best; and out of all his pictures, they must meditate on one picture of him..." On her Manhattan, IL website, Kalinski admits: "Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of awareness as taught by Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D, Master of Kundalini Yoga." It's not surprising to see statutes of a Hindu deity inside the Yoga 360 Studio and Spa in Frankfort, IL where Kalinski also works with Ram Nam Kaur. The instructors at the Studio acknowledge: "Yoga is a gift from ancient India, embraced by the West" and "is a practice which has the potential for deep transformation that both includes and extends beyond physical fitness" (http://www.yoga-360.com/aboutus/yogagivesback.html).
Cult expert Rick Ross cautions: "..if you see some guru's picture on the wall, or religious statues in the entrance area or practice room, something more than yoga might be lurking within the instruction...A group with a hidden agenda can use meditation to download its program" (http://www.cultnews.com/?cat=2).

3HO is increasingly trying to make getting certified as a Kundalini Yoga teacher a more and more costly and drawn-out process. Level I begets Level II which begets Level III (where I believe according to them do you only began to be able to call yourself a "yoga teacher") which will certainly beget a Level IV, bleeding you out of tens of thousands of dollars and months and years along the way.

If Gurumustuck is referring to people coming to Yogi Bhajan's spiritual path as a result of Kundalini Yoga then maybe we can say that at most five thousand people have adopted a form of Sikhism which in many ways is contrary to the teachings of the Sikh Gurus. From my 30 years’ experience in Yogi Bhajan's form of Sikhism, I found it to have some good results but to a large degree produced greed, lust, anger (mostly of the passive aggressive form) and selfishness in the 3HOers who practiced it. Look at the current situation in 3HO where they are fighting now over the millions made by Yogi Bhajan's use of the sacred Sikh symbols and Shabads to sell breakfast cereal and Yogi Tea. You must agree that if you look at one side of 3HO in this dispute you see greedy people and on the other side you see angry closed minded individuals.

I submit that Kundalini Yoga is like an addictive drug which may seem to make people better but after time it acts in producing mental and physical side effects like delusions about the " Magic Aquarian Age energy" beaming down from Jupiter and the stars to liberate people who do Kundalini yoga on the banks of the Ganga river! See this video of Gurmukh kaur which shows clear delusional behavior.

The fact is there was every reason why the Sikh Gurus designed Sikhism in the way they did, as a complete spiritual path and a complete way of living a human life. Yogi Bhajan diverted from the teachings of the Gurus with his clap trap theories of Kundalini Yoga and now he and his 3HO cult are paying for it!

Well NO, if you examine the actual hard numbers of people who claim to have benefited from KY then we must acknowledge that maybe a few thousand “THINK” they've seen health benefits and feel their life is happier as a result of practicing Kundalini Yoga. It may appear there are large numbers of Yogi Bhajan KY beneficiaries but this is deceptive because 3HO members have high skills in technology and marketing, therefore their numbers seem larger. Witness the SikhNet phenomena. I would also say that Kundalini Yoga can be dangerous and many many people have actually reported on the internet that their lives have been affected in a very negative and destructive way by Yogi Bhajan and his Kundalini/Tantric Yoga, but of course Gurumustuck and SikhNet refuse to address this and only block people who want to discuss the issue. I ask Gurumustuck "What about the thousands who became disenchanted with Yogi Bhajan's form of Sikhism and left the Sikh faith completely?” Many people in 3HO who could afford to leave, left Yogi Bhajan and his KY cult, while the ones whose livelihood depended on teaching Kundalini Yoga and the 3HO business's like SikhNet, Golden Temple foods and Akal security stayed with the appearance of wearing Sikh Bana but many only attached to Kundalini Yoga for money: Witness Kartar Khalsa and this whole group of 3HO leaders whom Yogi Bhajan trusted above all. This group of 3HOers are now cutting their hair and leaving Sikhi for another guru. Out of the thousands that left 3HO, the fact remains that a mere hand full (maybe 10 people) remained Sikhs! Remember Yogi Bhajan's favorite saying "Fake it and you'll make it." This statement tells all there is to say about the benefits of YB's Kundalini Yoga!
