"Heat up the sun energy of the right nostril..." These are made-up insertions, meant to justify the statements of Yogi Bhajan and his followers that our beloved Guru Sahiba(n) practiced physical yoga, when it is obvious from Sikh history, Gurbani....

We should give Dr Sant Singh credit for all the time and effort he put into rendering the Siri Guru Granth Sahib into present day English. Tragically though, because he was obviously determined to propagate Yogi Bhajan's teachings
at the expense of the true meanings of Gurbani, he often adds things that are simply not there in the original text.

I presume the tuks posted by Karanvir Singh are supposed to convince us that Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught breathing exercises and therefore yoga should be considered a part of Sikhi.

But if we look at the translation by Gurbani scholar Man Mohan Singh, we get rather a different story.

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Maru 1st Guru.

Burn thou off thy fiery nature and foster thy cool and calm disposition, Put thou thy life-breath in the right channel and establish good relation with Thy Lord.

In this way, thy fish like mercurial mind shall be held and thy soul-swan shall fly not away from thy Lord and thy body-wall shall perish not, in vain.

No mention of:
Heat up the sun energy of the right nostril, and cool down the moon energy of the left nostril; practicing this breath-control, bring them into perfect balance.

These are made-up insertions, meant to justify the statements of Yogi Bhajan and his followers that our beloved Guru Sahiba(n) practiced physical yoga, when it is obvious from Sikh history, Gurbani and the vara(n) of Bhai Gurdas ji that their only yoga was the yoga of naam and of devotion.
