This letter is a from a yoga student posted at: SOULBRIDES’ KITCHEN I am posting this letter and my response here at Gurmukhyoga.com because I think this problem touches at the very core of the discussion of whether Yogi Bhajan's Kundalini and tantric yoga systems are useful or in fact damaging.

"I wish you can help me. I’ve been practicing kundalini yoga and meditation for one year now. My teacher studied at 3HO, but has no relation with any religion.
I suffered with depression and took medication for more than 15 years, and after 4 months of practice I stopped the medication completely. I use the book “Kundalini Yoga Meditation”by David S. Shannahoff-Khalsa as a guide.
I was thinking about doing a course at 3HO, but decided to do a little research first. Now I’m very confused with the information I found at the internet.

Is the meditation and exercises I’ve been doing dangerous? If everything is based in Yogi Bhajan’s teachings, nothing is real? So why they worked so well?

Please help me!

Thank you!"

Response from Gursant Singh

God and Guru are the only way out of your misery!

Sure the yoga and mantras Yogi Bhajan taught get you high and give you a sense of well being but these are false highs like some illicit drug; Eventually leading to corruption and destruction as we saw with Yogi Bhajan's personal life, i.e. the Premka scandal and other corrupt and illegal practices. What we are now seeing with the infighting and greed between the Unto Infinity Board and Sikh Dharma is another example of the rotten fruit produced from Yogi Bhajan's corrupt teachings and practices.

I will also add that my wife is a respected Psychiatrist and she recommends following medical recommendations of a qualified Psychiatrist. These problems of depression have a biological origin and often times you need medications to assist in solving these problems. While exercise and a well balanced diet are important, do not live under any fantasy that you can heal yourself with so called "New Age therapies"

Below is a discussion I had with Guru Fatah Singh about Yogi Bhajan and his teachings. This might give you some insight into why the Kundalini and tantric yoga which Yogi Bhajan taught eventually leads to "physical and mental debauchery" as Dr. Trilochan said 33 years ago in his well researched book that was highly critical of Yogi Bhajan.

"Since you are quoting Jesus I will refer to the entire bible quotation about this subject as stated in Matthew 7:15 through Matthew 7:23:
A Tree and Its Fruit 15"Watch out for false prophets."

They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. 21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

What I learned in India about the Sikh Mystic Path

By Guru's grace, while being detained by authorities in India, I lived for almost one year at the Golden Temple. After visiting Guru Sahib at the Harmandir Sahib everyday, singing the divine Gurbani Kirtan and contemplating God's Name, the Guru showed me, how all the Yogic asanas I performed over the last 30 years were a complete waste of time and cannot match to 1 percent of the devotional contemplation on the Name of God.
“In contrast to Patanjali's Yoga, and other schools of Hindu Yoga (Hatha, Tantric, Laya, Kundalini, etc.), the Sikh Gurus call Sikh mystic path, Brahm Yoga (the Yoga which does not use any yogic technique but concentrates on God and achieves Him through devotion and contemplation). It is also called Gurmukh Yoga (Yoga of the Enlightened), Sahajya Yoga (Natural Yoga based on spontaneous devotion and contemplation). The word Yoga is used just to mean union with God.” Dr. Trilochan Singh.

I spent 30 years around Yogi Bhajan, living in his 3HO cult. Only after a severe wake up call while I was being detained in India and living among true Gursikhs, did I realize what a complete fraud Yogi Bhajan and his 3HO Sikhs are. I know it is hard to believe when you see these young people all dressed in white with perfect bana and turbans but believe me when I say, not all is what it seems to be. I encourage you to read Dr. Trilochan Singh's book "Sikhism and Tantric Yoga" which will guide you to the Sikh Mystic Path and you will not need all these fake guru's and kundalini yoga of the material world.

"The book Sikhism And Tantric Yoga is available at: www.gurmukhyoga.com.This website which is operated by a genuine White Sikh is highly recommended. Gursant Singh was a member of the Yogi Bhajan Cult (3HO and the Sikhnet Gora Sikhs or White Sikhs) for over 30 years and has intimate knowledge about the inner workings of this cult which attempts to miscegnate Sikhism with Hindu idolatry. I downloaded the book from Gursant’s website and found it to be absolutely compelling. I read it in one compulsive and sustained draught. It is a study not only about cults in Sikhism but about the miscegenation of the Sikh Religion by Hinduism. It is a classic work rendered in beautiful English prose and it is patently the work of a profound intellectual scholar with a deep knowledge of Sikhism."

Dr. Trilochan Singh also stated in a Time magazine article titled "Yogi Bhajan's Synthetic Sikhism,"Bhajan's synthesis of Sikhism and Tantrism is a sacrilegious hodgepodge."

Sikhism And Tantric Yoga:

The Western reader can understand better what I mean if he understands Tantra in terms of Marlowe’s or Goethe’s Faust. Yogi Bhajan is a Sikh by birth and still carries with him considerable sense of belonging to the Sikh Faith. But I have come to the conclusion that he is a Faustian character without the intellectual and Occult equipment of Dr. Faust, nor perhaps does he have Faust’s courage to retrace his steps. Ever since he has started proclaiming in speech and writings that he has done more than Guru Gobind Singh could do, and that Guru Gobind Singh has wrongly planted the seed of the Khalsa which he is trying to correct, he seems to have lost his mental balance. These are sacrilegious statements which no Sikh on earth can ever tolerate.
