PIARE BHAI DAYA SINGH JI: Rehatnama
Bhai Daya Singh Ji made very clear in the Rehatnama:
(1) A Sikh of the Guru should not have any faiths in Brahmanical monasteries, idols, pilgrimages to holy rivers, gods and goddesses, fasts, Brahmanical ceremonies of image worship (puja and archa), nor should a Sikh believe in Tantric mantras and Yantras nor go to Brahmins and pirs for amulets, talisman or seeking omens, nor submit to the Hindu sacrament of Gaytri and Tarpana.
(2) A Sikh is the Khalsa who has dedicated his body, mind and wealth to the Supreme Being.
(3) A Sikh should NOT wear any sacred thread of the Hindus. He should not perform any Hindu rites or ceremonies. A Sikh should perform all ceremonies according to discipline of the Sikh Gurus by offering prayers (Ardasa) before the Lord.
(8) A Sikh does NOT go to Hindu places of pilgrimage for salvation or mukti.
(9) A Sikh does not practice Yoga asanas and other feats of penance associated with Yoga of any sort.
(15) A Sikh does not have any faith in Brahmanical, Vaishnava or Shaiva Deities.
(16) A Sikh pays NO attention to Yogis who…put on any other garb or robes. For greed, lust, cheap popularity they wonder from door to door. Their hearts are empty and their samadhis are sham. The true religion is the Religion of divine Love.
(17) A Sikh should NOT follow hypocritical saints who are actually thugs in holy garb.
(18) A Sikh should NOT worship any idols. There is NO God in stone images.
I have presented text from pages 92 and 93 in Dr. Trilochan Singh’s book “The Turban and The Sword” 1977. You can readily see there are many paragraphs presented here and several more in the original text dedicated to advising Sikhs NOT to participate in Hindu rituals or ceremonies like the 11-11-11 Kundalini Yoga Festival being held at a Hindu monastery and temple which is also forbidden in this Rehatnama for Sikhs.

Bhai Daya Ram Ji after taking Amrit (Khande de pahul) became Bhai Daya Singh ji. Bhai Daya Singh ji has the honour of being the first 'Singh' of Khalsa Panth. Five panj piaras administered the rites of giving Amrit (Khande de pahul) to Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji as asked by the tenth guru.

Although the five 'piaras' enjoyed equal status as the Guru's close confident attendants, Bhai Daya Singh Ji was always regarded as the first among equals and was held in high esteem in the Sikh Community. Bhai Daya Singh ji was a trustworthy disciple of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji and constantly remained with Guru Sahib. On account of his merits and abilities, he was entrusted with the task of delivering the famous historical document, Zafarnama (Letter of victory written in persian language) by Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji to the mughal Emperor Aurengzeb who was encamping at Ahmednagar in Deccan at that time. The purpose of the Zafarnama was to apprise the Emperor the actual state of affairs of the reign of terror of Mughal governance in the Punjab and unjust military attacks on the establishments and followers of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji . It lodged a loud protest against the treachery of the Mughal army and betrayal of pledges on the part of the soverign himself. The Zafarnama of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji pronounced the challenge of the Khalsa to fight against injustice , tyranny and oppression and promised to defend righteousness , justice and freedom of people. It carried a message in clear words of the commencement of heralding the movement of political freedom in Punjab.
